Pullbacks versus breakouts in swing structure
How to describe the two common swing entry families so you stop mixing rules from incompatible chart stories.
Pullback setups wait for a pause inside an established swing. Breakout setups wait for price to leave a defined range or prior swing high or low. Both can be valid; problems start when students borrow confirmation rules from one family and apply them to the other.
In class we ask students to label each practice chart as pullback or breakout before they write an entry sentence. That single label reduces vague phrases such as looks strong that hide which structure they think they see.
Invalidation differs too. A pullback idea often dies when structure of the prior swing is broken. A breakout idea often dies when price fails back into the range after a decisive leave. Mixing those invalidation styles produces confused review notes.
When you save screenshots at home, write the family name at the top. Future coaching hours then start from shared vocabulary instead of reconstructing your intent.
